Sweet Sixteen is the official term used in the NCAA Tournament semifinals. The word “sweet sixteen” actually means
that the last 16 teams will compete against each other to qualify for the championship.

Elite Eight

In the NCAA Men’s or Women’s Group I Basketball Championships, Elite Eight or Elite 8 is the last eight teams to play
against each other. These teams represent the national or final quarter-finals of the region. Teams from the
Elite 8 Championship will advance to the final four.

The Final Four

The term “four strong” basically means that the remaining four teams will participate in the deciding game. Most sports
have some form of competition to find the final champion. Often referred to as the semi-finals, but in the
